Alex Vipond: Studio work. It was the bread and butter of any musician, and it didn't matter which portion of it you were working on, recording, producing, mixing, it something that was kept you going, making the CDs for the fans, creating new music, and even working on projects with other artists. The last couple of weeks, Alex had been working on an album, not as an artists, not on his own music, but for another musician, an up and coming young man, that had reached out to him, through Facebook. Several months later, they were in the studio together, laying down track. Once they were done for the day, however, Alex was at the computer, going through his emails, after putting the finishing touches on the most recent song.
DoIl Fangs: You know that song Happy? Pharrell. Yeah, the Russian had discovered it like a year after everyone else. What? She really was 12. "Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof.... Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth!" For the record, Jack did not clap along or sing. He just wandered up to ring the buzzer once he got Happy Feet there to come along. And she w a s Happy Feet, shuffling and be-bopping like any other tween with knobby knees and pigtails. Clad in a little purple dress, white tights and big puffy Autumn boots. She stopped singing long enough to chirp h a p p i l y in broken-ass English. "Alex! I here!"
Alex Vipond: Hearing Little Bit, Alex got up from the computer and headed up to the front office, a smile given. "Welcome, come on in." He offered his hand out to Jack, then looked back at Nadia. "And how are you doing?" he stepped back, and gestured to the room, "Not much happening at the moment, the guy I've been working with the last couple of weeks just left." He rolled his gum to the other side of his mouth as he drew a hand through his hair to draw it back from his face.
TheIrishWoIf: Eithne was there... sorta... engrossed in her Tetris game, the graphics on the new phone just blew her mind. So much clearer and more defined than on her old one... ahem, anyway! She was lounging on whatever seating was there, dressed in the usual wide legged jeans and guess what, wearing that white tacky NYC t-shirt. She heard the familiar voice of the creepy vampire child, despite how wrapped up she was in the game, and even gave a wave when the two walked in. "Hey Nadia..." Awe... she even looked up to see the little Russian. "You know that song by heart? That was some nice singing I heard out there."
DoIl Fangs: When they were received, she of course tapped pause on her Happypalooza. Lamb eyes going up to Alex, she watched Jack shake his hand. Course, ya know after Jack shook his hand and bid a hello, he was heading outside again to have a Marlboro. As for the Russian, she flashed an apple-cheek smile at Alex and bumrushed him to hug him. "I very well. How is Alex?" Peeking around him, her apple smile grew. Eithne! It made Nadia's tiny black heart swell seeing that tacky ass t-shirt. "Good evening Eithne. Yes! I love the Pharrell." She might have preened a bit, hearing that her singing was good. Delicately she patted her braids -- her version of preening.
Alex Vipond: Arms wrapped around her and he chuckled. "I'm good," Nadia was so bubbly, and tiny, one couldn't refrain from getting wrapped up in her. Of course not for a moment did he forget that she was in fact, a deadly killer, or at least had that potential. Then again, they all did. He looked over at Eithne and smiled, then moved on back to drop into his chair once more. "So, what have you been up to since last we met?"
TheIrishWoIf: Oh yeah, Nadia was adorable enough to make Eithne even soften up a bit. And no, she wouldn't forget either, especially since, despite being wolfie, she was Nadia's preferred blood type. That was scary enough right? Watching her pat her braids, she had to refrain from laughing. "Ought to send him a video of her singing his song." She suggested to Alex... not that she knew if he could do that perse, but it was a thought.
DoIl Fangs: Deadly as ever, sweet Nadia. She would have gladly gone and unleashed terror on the locals, just smited them Poseidon and drank them like they were Snapple -- cept she knew she wasn't allowed. Being good. So, apple smile still intact, she peeked between the two, clasping little pale hands in a formal manner. Alex asked what she was up to. "I get a pink agenda book and gel pens, and sparkly markers and stickers." Basically she loved the agenda and stickers. As long as Ctepah's human girlfriend kept bringing home stickers and colorful glue sticks, Nadia would stop staring at her as though she were a Snickers Bar. Speaking of, Eithne smelled divine. But she adored Eithne so anyhoo. "What have Alen and Eithne, how you say, been up to?"
Alex Vipond: It could be arranged. "At the very least, upload it to YouTube." Alex nodded and as she listed off the things she had, he grinned. "I guess you only sparkle on paper." Yeah it was an anti-Twilight joke. Like his t-shirt that said he only sparkled at night. "Well, we just finished some studio work for an up and coming artist, and the next couple of days we'll be putting the finishing touches on it and then sending the master out for production."
DoIl Fangs: Looking down, Nadia giggles musically. Her, singing? On film? To be put on the --how you say-- the internets? They were funny. And then Alex made an anti-Twilight joke and she giggled more. "I like the Jacob." Leave it to Nadia, right? "He is lesser known, not a rock star?" Alex was a r e a l rock star. If she were permitted to be a little snit, she'd never let people forget that she was friends with a rock star -- then she'd probably kill them. But again. Not allowed either. All good.
Alex Vipond: Especially if they were fans. No killing the fans. It was bad for business. Unless they were Bieber fans, then maybe it could be considered a mercy... At any rate, Alex smiled as Nadia chuckled. "Do you want to see what I did today?" He pulled up the last song worked on, in the mixer to show her what they'd done.
DoIl Fangs: "Yes please!" She peeked over when Jack wandered back in but Jack was content to sit and play Candy Crush on his phone -- it was unlikely he'd a d m i t to playing it, but that's what he was doing. As for the Russian in puffy boots, she wandered around to peek at the mixer, a funny looking foreign thing to her. Peeking from that to Alex. "Is three songs. How long this take?" Just curious. School was in session.
Alex Vipond: "Actually, one song, different layers of the song. We don't perform the song, and record it, we record each piece of the song. Vocals, bass, guitar, drums, it's all done separately, then put together here on the computer. We can mix the sound here on the computer to make it sound exactly how we want it. And if one take isn't quite perfect in place, we can take a sound bite from a second or third take and drop it in, to replace the portion of that take that we don't like, and by the time everything is done, it... can look a little messy, but the sound is as perfect as you can get."
DoIl Fangs: Huh. She had no idea. She knew next to nothing (at all) about recording so she's listening, lamb eyes big and rapt, cheeks lifting apple like, while he explained. "Is not harder to record one piece at a time?" Just wondering. Still listening, she wandered to Jack and s h o v e d her hand to his while she listened. She did that sometimes, just randomly treated Jack like he was her security blanky.
Alex Vipond: "It's more time consuming, but in the long run, it's easier, because if you record it all at once, and there's one little thing off, you have to start all over again, with everything, from the top. This way, with each layer, you can just re-record one take of one instrument to get the performance you want, and again, if you need to, you can cut and splice, so you don't have to run through the entire song again."
DoIl Fangs: Made sense. She nodded, peeking from Jack to Alex with the apple cheek smile, baby-pink crawling her complexion and hinting at the fact that she'd had some 'Starbucks' before arriving. "When can Eithne and me hear?"
