Joss was uncertain just how well the conversation went after she bolted out of the Gator two nights past, but well she hadn't run into Nash last night, so she assumed either Callie scared him off, heh, or he returned back to Seattle. After a little digging and searching the net, Joss hoped she found the right address and a short letter was sent along with a gift..... After her meeting with Mars earlier in the day, she'd sent the gift out to Nash before she had time to change her mind. Daring to even include her number but what the hell, she had nothing to lose with the exception of the gift returned.
Nash,
Hope this letter finds you well and that everything that was said the other night at the Gator didn't chase you off. Hopefully you hear from your brother soon and that all is well. It was a pleasure meeting you.
Joss
The gift....
It was actually kind of scary how she found him at the Marco Polo on Aurora Avenue, but after she'd mentioned the tips on how to find someone, it really wasn't all that surprising. It also wasn't like he was driving a non-descript car. The Skyline not only turned heads but people remembered it long after it rolled past them. Still, when he rolled into the lot and headed for his door, the last thing he expected to see was a note from management saying he had a package that was delivered.
His first thought was that his baby bro had come out of hiding, but gift from Joss had him chuckling as he headed back to his room, and digging his phone out of the pocket of his jeans. He dialed her number as he swung the door shut; heading for the fridge to pull out the remnants of last night's burger excursion. Now as he listened to the call ringing through, Nash debated whether it was better to eat it cold or nuke it in the microwave.
So as the day wore on and she'd continued to push herself running and training, blocking out the memories she relived after talking to Mars. Stopping for a bit to take a swim, she had just sat down on a towel to soak up the last rays of sun when she heard her phone go off.
Not recognizing the number, Joss hesitated in picking up but then a slight ray of hope had her reaching for the phone.....
“Joss here...”
"Hey, Joss, it's Nash." he smiled as he spoke and skipped the nuking of the left overs. Cold it was. Sitting down at the table in the motel room, he unwrapped his food, and spread it out, before he got up and moved back to the fridge to grab a Dr. Pepper from it. "I got your gift." He paused, still not sure what to make of it. "It's awesome, thanks."
When she heard his voice, Joss relaxed on the blanket under the sun and smiled. She knew it had to probably be a bit awkward to have a gift suddenly waiting for him from someone who was technically still a complete stranger, but Joss couldn't help but at least want to send a thank you to him for the few nights they had chatted. If he only knew how much he had helped her in a sense.
"Hey Nash, I'm um glad that I managed to track you down and have the gift delivered. It took a bit of fancy computer work and digging but well your Skyline does happen to stick out a bit. I'm glad that you liked it though. I, well, um just wanted to say thanks. I enjoyed talking with you those few nights at the Gator. I don't exactly know what Callie told you, but well if you're ever back at the Gator or want to take a trip to Austin, I'd love to, as you put it, cut loose with you." Biting her lower lip, she was still unsure just what had prompted her to send him the necklace, especially with the wolf on it, but well it was what she was and who knew if he'd figure that out. "How are you doing? Any news about your brother yet?'
Nash paused, phone pressed to his ear with his shoulder, the bottle of Dr. Pepper in one hand and the necklace in the other, the medallion of it resting in his palm as he studied it. The fact that she mentioned the talk he'd had with Callie, and sent him this specific piece, held far more significance than he'd lent it at first.
"Yeah, I don't think I'll be getting to Austin any time soon but Callie's isn't out of the realm of possibility." He moved back to the table, still regarding that necklace, which he laid on the table, fingers straightening out the cord it was hung from as he stared at it, as if it held the answers to the universe. "Hey, you haven't by chance met my brother have you?" He was beginning to think maybe there was something more to his being missing.
Obviously Ian was in the know of these things, but what if he'd had a mishap? "You know what? I'm heading to the Gator, meet me there?" He needed to know what the situation was with this wolf stuff. And find out if it was possible that his brother was out wandering around, possibly chasing cars on four feet or some shit.
Sitting up a bit as she tried to center herself some and listen to his breathing through the phone, to try and pick up on any hints whatsoever on what he might be thinking, though of course, she couldn't read minds, but hesitations in speech, breathing and the like definitely. Glancing out at the water, she heard his answer and nodded though she knew he couldn't see it.
"Ah well it's a shame that you won't be heading towards Austin any time too soon. But well as for the Gator, not quite sure if I'd be able to make it there, at least not tonight. Things happened last night there and well I'm trying to avoid running into a certain person lest I get myself into trouble by spouting off." She had to snicker. "As for knowing your brother, I can't say that I've met him since I've only been in Austin and around Callie's place for only a short period of time. I only moved to Austin about a month, month and a half ago and well that first night we met was actually the first time I had shown up at Callie's, Nash."
"I think there might be a park not far from Callie's, maybe we could try to meet up there or perhaps tomorrow late evening?"
"Oh?" that had his curiosity up, and he was on his feet, the Dr. Pepper capped and left to sit, but that was his only concession to picking up the food he'd spread out on the table. Had Mousse been with him, Nash would have put the food down for him, but his faithful lab was back in Miami.
"Yeah, the park sounds fine, but what happened at the Gator?" He'd ask Callie, find out what the odds were, what the process was, if she knew, and if she hunted these things, odds were she knew a good deal. And of course as soon as that thought filtered through his mind, he was stopping in his tracks, a cold chill chasing down his spine.
It took a few long moments from his breathing to kick into gear again, he'd not even realized he'd been holding it, but was stepping out of the door, hand giving the knob a jiggle out of habit to make certain it was locked, before he was heading for his car, keys dug from his pocket.
Biting her lower lip, she could hear him holding his breath and she nearly backed out then and there. When she heard the way he said "Oh" she probably should of just not said a word. It was bad enough that she wasn't sure if Callie was upset with her or anything or if Callie had realized what had taken place while she'd been on the phone with Mars. "Um yeah. I'll explain when we see each other, that is if you want to. I'd understand if you didn't want to though, Nash. You hardly know me."
She hesitated. Standing slowly, she gathered up her towel, sneakers, shorts and tank top. "I'll tell you when I catch up to you at the park. Are you sure that you want to drive out there tonight?" She usually wasn't one to back step, but just the way he seemed to be hesitant himself had her doubting herself and her reasons for even reaching out to him. But truth be told, there was just something different about him and as part of her discussion with Mars earlier that morning, she had to learn how to trust all over again and would need to start somewhere.
"I'll see you there, Nash."
"It's all good." He nodded as he pulled the car door open and slid down into it. "I know it's crazy, but I keep having these images of Ian going all furry and chasing cars and being lost and alone and confused..." In other words, he needed answers on this shit. Shifting the phone to his other hand, he then pressed it to his ear with his shoulder.
His next thought had him momentarily dropping the phone. He fumbled with it and got it back to his ear. "Sorry, I just had this thought of what the hell I'm going to tell my parents if he's gone native." No. There was no way in hell to explain that to the parents. "Shit..." he shook his head. "Park tomorrow. What time?"
Joss had to chuckle as she could almost imagine Nash climbing in his car and trying to balance his phone while getting situated in the car as well. "Now wait a minute, going furry isn't all that bad." She had said it before she could catch herself and she bit her lower lip. "Um damn it." She shook her head slightly as she leaned against a small boulder.
"Look, I promise we'll talk tomorrow late afternoon, say around 5 - 530 pm (EST, or when your available) and I'll answer any questions that I can and if um your brother has gone all native, well I'll try to help you figure out something. I can see if I can find anything out for you, but I can't make any promises. But just one promise from you, Nash, please. " He'd be able to hear or at least detect the almost pleading tone. "Don't just shut me out without hearing me out. And as for what Callie had been talking about with you the other night at the Gator, it’s true, much and more. But we'll talk about it tomorrow."
Nash paused everything he was doing to listen to her, and then he nodded, even though she couldn't hear it... or, well, maybe she could. Just one more thing he had to learn. "You know just how fucking crazy this all sounds, right? I keep expecting the orderlies with the white coats to come chase me down and shit."
It was crazy to even entertain the idea of it, and yet, he'd seen enough, knew enough, to know that mankind as a whole really didn't know dick about the planet they lived on. Or in this case, knew and didn't talk about it. Like... street racing or fight club... "Right, see you tomorrow. You take care." He smiled and hit end on the phone, shifting in the seat to slide it back into his pocket before he started the car up and backed from the space he was parked in. Then he was off to see if he could find out if his brother was pissing on hydrants and chasing cars.
Joss had to smile to herself as she paused on the path that would lead her back to the ranch. She could hear Nash settle while listening to her talk. "Look Nash, I know how fucking crazy it sounds, but please come with an open mind. I'm risking alot telling you about all of this. In all honesty, you'd be my first that I'm actually divulging anything about myself to aside from Mars."
"I promise no white jackets will be waiting to chase you down, though they might if you were to speak to anyone else about this. " A faint chuckle could be heard.
Joss had come to a stop once again as she listened to him. She was trying to figure out just why she was doing this, why exposing what she was to him, but she couldn't answer that question or could she and it scared her. "You make sure you take care. Don't do anything reckless or well until we see each other. Dress comfortable, I'll pack a picnic basket and maybe even wear a red hooded cape." That made her laugh and she would be almost certain he'd get the pun. "Thank you for trying to understand, Nash, and for giving me a chance to explain. I'll see you tomorrow at the park with a meal , you bring a bottle or 3, of something to drink. Til then."
She hit end on her phone as she tried to piece together what and just how much of herself she'd be able to tell him. Trust was hard for her and she hoped that her instincts were right. As for his brother, well she didn't know Ian, but she would ask Mars to see if he knew anything. She'd try her best to help Nash out to find his brother.
