For the last hour I've been near tears because I thought I lost every single one of my roleplay logs that I save on AOL. While you're probably wondering why this concerns you, I'm just issuing a warning: BEWARE AOL's BS!
I signed on this morning to check mail and everything was fine, and then I went about my day, making dinner, and before I started on the taking down Christmas stuff finally, I decided to check my email again, but not only did it not work, but it told me my account was canceled. Needless to say, I *NEVER* canceled my account, so I called up AOL and spent about 45 minutes on the phone with them, explaining what happened and all they could tell me was to change my passwords (which they helped me do -- and it didn't help), to run a virus scan, and to sign back on in a half an hour to see if that helps, OR...and this was what made me think they do this shit on purpose to make sales (I said this before and I'm fairly certain of it now)...I could open a paid account and receive tech support which may or may not help me. I declined, stating I'm out of work and don't have the money (which is the truth) and that pretty much ended our conversation (actually, I hung up on him because I was so upset). I then ran a disk scan, defrag and a virus scan and then decided to give it one more try. Luckily, it now works. I don't know if it was a glitch on their end or mine, or if I'm right and they're fucking with people's accounts in the hopes they'll make money, but I swear to God, I'm setting up a backup Google or Yahoo account tonight for Jade and forwarding every fucking log over there because I refuse to go through this again.
I don't know if this will happen to everyone eventually, but I just want to let as many people as possible know so they can save their stuff just in case.
