Because this is OUR story line, not a 'it's my way or the highway' kind of deal, I think we should all put our heads together in regard to just what the laws of physics, regarding our types of beings are and come up with a cohesive, unified, multi-genre set of guidelines.
So, with that in mind, I want you guys to post what you want to see in our vampires, lycans, witches, etc, etc, etc. Everything posted will be compiled and discussed and then we can decide on what's what. How's that sound to you guys?

As with any 'critter' much will depend on one's experience. With witches, depending on the genre, one can do anything from simple herb craft to bringing back the dead. There's really too much ground to cover to be able to definitively list what can and cannot be done. There's a bit of science in the craft just as there is a bit of the craft in science.
Just as an example, the other night I had Izzy create flame as a defensive measure. One could say that it was out of thin air, but how would it be done? What are the mechanics of it? Manipulating the air, and the particulates within it, one can create a highly excited state on an atomic level, thereby creating heat. There are three things needed for fire, heat, air and fuel. The very particulates in the air can be used for fuel. The hyper excited state of the atoms as they're manipulated into movement, create the heat and ... well, air is everywhere within the atmosphere. So in theory, one could, by hyper exciting the molecules within the air, create fire from 'nothing'.
In other instances it could be something, such as the scene in Practical Magic where Sally is writing a letter to her sister, and stirring her coffee. She pulls her hand away from the cup, but the spoon continues to stir the coffee. Magic or telekinesis? Or are they, by chance in this instance, one and the same?
Every genre seems to be in agreement on the point that magic requires tapping into spiritual and elemental forces in order to work. As for what a witch can or can't do, I think it's more of a matter of what can't she do? She's not going to know whether or not she can until she tries. And then of course there are somethings that should not be tried. Things that perhaps others have tried and discovered disastrous results from it.
In the end? "And ye harm none, do what ye will."
