Styx laughed and shook her head. "Must be a lot of dumb asses out there." She nodded and then took another drink before diving back in. "So how did you get into the bounty hunter gig? Was it a planned thing or just one of those moments of opportunity?"
"Well, long story short state had a reward on somebody and they made it all kinds of personal with me tryin' to get away from them. I won't bore you with details." About how some asshole got a price put on his head for hurtin' people's kids, got themselves bit by a vampire and all complications aside Brick brought him in 'Alive'. "Shy of it is I'm good at what I do for the most part, " He said, taking in a mouthful of steak and vegetable from the salad-for-two. "I'll tell you more about it when I feel a little comfortable discussin' my particulars with you." [d]
"Cool." She nodded, then stabbed her fork into the salad. She could eat greens. She knew at least what they were. "So it was the moment of opportunity. Does it pay good?" She took another bite of steak, and chewed as she watched him.
"Varies. It's about the media attention the criminal gets and whether you're willing to make a federal case over the bail bond and anything else you feel you're entitled to." He said, shrugging. "Average is anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand for someone skipping release on bond, and then we have wanted people; first by the law, then by the media. Media gets involved, price tag can easily double. Get the news involved with the FBI wanted list, we could be talking a half-million." He stated plainly, never really taking his eyes off of his plate, and biting and chewing between sentences. He was a gentleman like that, despite being at times, a pompous windbag. [d]
"No shit?" Styx kind of stopped doing everything at that point and just stared. "I am so in the wrong business." She shook her head and stabbed up some more salad before popping another fry between her teeth and chewing slowly.
"Slow down, there, turbo-cute-stuff." Her moxie was adorable, yeah. But moxie got a lot of young ladies hurt where discretion and a cool head would have helped everybody. "A price tag that big is for like... the FBI top ten, and they've been in the news recently; and this is considering federal, state, and local bounties. You could legally collect from everyone on record stating they'll pay for justice, technically. From Uncle Sam, to your actual uncle Sam down the street if he said he'd pay to see baby face copycat behind bars." He said, still eating, but carelessly glancing upward to the pretty little thing munching down across from himself. [d]
"Not mine, he's a cheap bastard. Most kids got birthday cards with money in them, I got fortune cookies. Old. Fortune Cookies." She nodded as she pointed at him with her fork. "Cheap bastard. Embarrassed the whole family, numerous times."
