Basic Characteristics:
First, whether it be consented or forced, whatever the circumstances, the creating vampire needs to drain the human which they intend to turn, of their life essence, their blood. The vampire will not kill the human, but rather stop feeding to just near the point of death, where without its intervention the human would soon thereafter, perish.
Then, the vampire will, whether it is by mutually consented offer or force, replace the dying human’s life essence, blood, with that of their own. This can be done by several means, but the most common is that the vampire will allow, or force, the human to drink from it… to ingest its blood. The quantity of the vampire’s blood by the human, as well the strength and power of the creating vampire, all will have an effect on how powerful the child is from ‘birth’.
The new vampire will as a result of its new cravings, and possible confused state, be quite dangerous. It is for this reason, that the responsible sire of a vampire will retain custody of its not yet arisen Childes body until that time. Or that they will maintain a careful awareness of the situation, being there when the time is right in order to provide guidance to its new creation. The less than responsible sire will at the worst, care not, and let its new creation run amuck satisfying its blood-lust without interference, or regard to the consequences.
A vampire could, for a variety of reasons, allow a human to ingest its life essence after feeding on him or her. A vampire could, for a variety of reasons, allow or force a human to ingest its blood, without having fed from that human prior. The life essence of a Vampire can be used to preserve, and restore a mortally wounded or ill human being. The vampire’s blood will cause as much regeneration and healing within a human being in any given quantity.
“Immortality” - A Vampire, is an entity that for all practical purposes is an immortal one. This is true, and this is also false. A vampire will retain the appearance, normally, in holding of whatever their age as a human that they were at the time of their turning. They do not age in the conventional sense. They get older and change in other less visible ways, without normally losing the appearance of their youth. There are only a few things which might cause a vampires appearance to alter to the negative, and all of them go against a vampire’s better instinct, and even then, are reversible. A Vampire is immune to the effects of disease, and poisonous substances which would normally cause illness, incapacitation, or death in most humanoid beings. A vampire will survive each act that would kill a human, with very few exceptions that will ensure its true death. The true death can be brought about by decapitation, immolation, meeting the sun, or the old stake through the heart. Silver hurts.
A vampire can become incapacitated by a serious loss of blood, inflicted by wounds, or lack of blood, caused by starvation. Without feeding, or when bled dry, they will desiccate and become statue like until revived through blood.
Enhanced Strength - Even a newly arisen vampire possess the strength of several athletic men, though vampires strength increases exponentially relative to its age. A fledgling vampire however supernatural in strength compared to even the strongest of humans will pale against one its elder.
Enhanced Speed & Agility – Vampires are infinitely faster than human beings, or even lycanthropes, except in the case of fledgling vampires or vampires younger than the lycanthrope. In such a case as the vampire being the same age or younger than the lycanthrope, their speeds are comparable. Vampires despite their agility or lack of in life are all inherently agile, and having reflexes which are even as a newly made vampire, significantly enhanced in comparison to a human being and to the likes of which that does not nor can be replicated in nature.
*Since enhanced speed and agility are based upon age, a vampire’s servant can attain the age to be faster than vampires younger than themselves.
Enhanced Senses - All of a Vampire’s senses, even as a newly made vampire, typically operate on a level much higher to that of a human being and hone exponentially with age.
Empathy: The vampire has many tools at his or her disposal. One is the ability to detect emotions, to almost be able to feel and smell them on the air. This ability is more pronounced in some vampires than others, and even under-developed in some. New vampires may not immediately associate these new scents and sensations for what they represent.
A vampire is capable of remaining totally motionless, silent, and statue like with zero signatures. While a human heart still beats, and lungs must draw breath which betray them to predators and prey alike, a vampire's does not have to. When a vampire maintains a good feeding schedule, their bodies can produce human warmth, breath and pulse through the cardio and respiratory systems.
Vampires are not at all affected by religious artifacts, holy water, unless the wielder is devout. Religious artifacts will repulse, and on contact blister the skin of, the vampire if wielded by those utterly devout. Holy water, when deployed by the same, is akin to sulfuric acid.
Vampires are not affected by garlic.
Vampires are not invisible in mirrors, but rather, normally are incredibly vain creatures.
A well fed vampire armed with only the slightest bit of intent exudes charm, by the nature of being one of the more highly evolved predators. Everything about them, after turning, save for the coldness to the touch, is modified if only slightly to enhance this. Even without intent, these predators, and everything about them is designed to draw otherwise unaware and unassuming prey towards them like moths to the flame. Most of them rely on the fact that they do not have to hunt their food as a beast does hunt, and kill… Rather that they usually seduce theirs first, or can.
Blood is addictive for vampires; they have a lust for it, built into whatever force that allows them to rise anew, turned, as a survival mechanism that will ensure that despite any reservations due to human sentiments, that they will do what they need to in order to sustain themselves. The blood of lycanthropes, witches, etc. and the like, is highly addictive and more potent than human blood.
Human blood is the staple of a vampires diet, however most vampires find that the blood of mystic humans are even more sustaining, and enjoyable meals, especially the more powerful they are. Lycanthropes are also a delicacy in that their blood is also highly sustaining, and more so relative to the power and age of the one being fed from. A vampire is immune to the effects of disease, and thus the normally virulent, highly infections, bodily fluids of a lycanthrope have no ill effects. A well fed vampire will, should he or she choose, be able to consume human food, with no ill effects so long as he or she maintains a healthy supply of blood. There is no dietary benefit from consuming human food, merely the ability to partake of it.
Vampires need to feed, on the life essence of others generally in the form of Blood. A vampire can consume human, shifter, animal, or even the blood of another vampire. Animal blood can sustain a vampire in between more appropriate meals, but is not capable of sustaining a vampire forever. A vampire, who chooses to not feed on humans, if they can help it, will notice that their abilities and power will be greatly diminished in comparison to a vampire who feeds on human blood regularly unless entirely being substituted by the blood of other preternatural. (EX- Witches, Lycanthropes, Etc.)

When a Vampire does not feed for a prolonged period of time, while remaining active (A week.), not only do they begin to become more feral, losing their strength, ability in power, and resolve, but they become more susceptible to emotional response. Strong emotions like anger, fear, lust, and etc. This can make all but the very eldest Vampires fall into a state of uncontrollable bloodlust, in which they will assault, and feed from the nearest human(s) without tact, or rational thought other than to feed. Their skin, as they go without feeding, will take on an almost translucent, glowing quality. Failure to feed for extended period of time (More than a month-two months) while active (Not “Hibernating”) can cause any one of, or all of the following:
- Progressive loss of sanity.
- Hair will turn a yellowish/grey color.
- Eyes will turn black, and stay that way. (Generally this freaks humans out)
- Skin will wrinkle severely and start to match the color of their hair, and other signs of accelerated aging may take place.
- They will smell constantly of death, like they're decomposing.
- Teeth, except fangs, will rot and eventually fall out, being replaced by fangs.
(This is all reversible, assuming it has not gone too far, by feeding regularly over the course of several days, several times a day until recovered, which by that point in the scheme of things would not be a matter of will or instinct, more a matter of availability.)
Some vampires even go so far as acquiring the taste of their own, while the practice is usually reserved for the affections between vampires… if taken too far it can have its own share of consequences.
Being powerful is exhausting; and a vampire must replenish the essence for which it uses to fuel its power, a vampire needs blood. An especially powerful vampire, or even a younger vampire with a trick or two, will find that the more they exercise their abilities, the hungrier it makes them.
Human warmth, that comfortable 98.6'F, drops to around 95'F when one becomes a vampire which can be relieved as result of feeding. A regularly, and well fed vampire, will function rather normally in regard to body temp, pulse, respiration, even sweating.
Vampires have fangs, their upper canine teeth, which they can extend and retract, at will.
Vampires are sometimes raised new in their siring with an additional, unique power ordinarily not developed into until becoming an elder. These side effects are a remnant, the signature of the kind of power that had created the first vampire(s). These powers are triggered by strong emotions: anger, joy, fear, lust, etc. These powers take several years, often centuries, to be able to keep under some sort of control, or to use deliberately with desired effect.
Vampires are unable to enter a dwelling without permission of invitation. If invited inside, they can return whenever they wish, until the dwelling is made secure with a witch’s spell, sorcery, or until the vampire is destroyed.
Blood bonding: If a vampire were to force, or allow the ingestion of its blood by a human, another vampire or shifter in a very limited quantity and allow that being to survive the ordeal, then the Vampire will for as long as his or her blood is in the beings system, be able to mentally contact that individual, or even intercept that individuals thoughts. The vampire if bonded to a human, a lesser vampire, or if powerful enough other creatures, can compel these individuals while bonded to perform low level tasks or to return to the vampire for follow up feeding sessions. A human, or otherwise being, can always be located by a Vampire that it is bound to for the duration of the bond. The effect will generally only last between a single day, or up to three depending on the origins and strength of the blood, as well quantity. This procedure, unique to its applications towards humans, will not cause the human any suffering or other trauma, as the vampire blood is not actively going to be replacing blood that is lacking, or repairing any serious defect or wound etc. If any disease is present, or the human is wounded at the time of the blood bonding procedure, than the effects upon ingesting the vampire blood will induce a great amount of pain in that human until its work is done. Vampire blood, only affects humans and mystics in this manner. An Elder Lycanthrope will be resistant, if not outright immune to any successful forced blood bonding.
Elder Vampires:
- A vampire who is above 300 years considered an elder.
Elder Vampires: Elder Vampires are without a doubt, infinitely more difficult in dispatching than their younger counterparts. An Elder Vampire has typically survived, if not prospered and has become expert in doing so over the course of several centuries. As such, most Elder Vampires are at least four centuries old and like other vampires are at different stages in development, and skill regarding themselves and their acquired powers. The Elder Vampires among other things are the elders and the leadership within the vampire “community”.
1. As a vampire becomes an elder, he or she undergoes subtle changes. One, that is an advantage is that his or her bite, through their saliva, becomes almost narcotic to humans, lycanthropes, and in fact most creatures. Even without the use of its other compulsory abilities, it has been documented that the victim of such an elder might intentionally seek out the vampire, or any vampire, having once been fed from; to try and get another “dose” of the addictive drug which would then be associated with the bite, and being fed from.
2. Slumber of Ancients - the ability of an elder vampire to enter a deep state of hibernation like sleep. This state is either a self-induced ability which has been learned, or an involuntary reaction to some particular harmful trauma inflicted upon the vampire, whose body, and blood cannot immediately repair as normal, and is to such an extent that a more permanent death is imminent. If not self-induced, the severely wounded or otherwise severely traumatized vampire will instinctively seek out a place which is dark and deep underground such as a cave. If self-induced, then the elder is most likely to place him, or herself, in such a fashion that ensures that he or she cannot accidentally be disturbed or otherwise harmed. This slumber is subjective, if caused involuntarily to preserve itself, lasting anywhere from a few years, to several centuries. If self-induced, voluntarily, there is no given instinct to automatically wake up. One has to intentionally be awoken then via blood, and one should take measures to ensure that if and when, that it cannot be caused accidentally.
If in a coma like, prolonged state of rest, that elder’s for their own reasons might voluntarily or otherwise enter, feeding is not an immediate concern and will not have any undesirable effect on the elder. However, upon their awakening from this slumber like state, decades, or even centuries could have passed by, and thus they will usually awaken disorientated, confused, and quite hungry… much like how a brand new vampire will awaken from its human death.
3. Memory Consumption (Very rare): Most elders are capable of inducing a vision like state of experience for themselves while they feed; these visions are the memories of whom they happen to be feeding. Depending on the age, and ability of the elder doing this, these visions, taken memories, can be as vivid in color, sound, and other detail as if they themselves had been present. As well, during prolonged sessions, search through an individual’s memory as if it were a series of archived records. In ruling groups, covens, or families of vampires this ability is used by their elders as a most useful tool. It can be also used, in awakening another elder, to bring that elder up to date in a clearly projected record through blood, of what has transpired while it has been asleep. This can also help in the recovering elder’s case, in preventing disorientation.
4. Empathetic Voice Manipulation: All vampires are capable of, with a little practice, and some better than others, the art of manipulating their “slightly adjusted” vocal chords though this is something that will be learned over hundreds of years or specifically taught to a childe by its elder sire. This effect when combined with a very light, minimal “touch” of compulsion can mesmerize, instill lust, or considerable primordial fear. A vampire retains, and for the most part makes use of its individual, unique voice, the one it possessed while it was a human being. The act of being turned causes several changes to occur to a human body, and mind. One of the physical changes is the alteration of the vocal chords. The vampire is capable of projecting an absolutely beautiful, majestic and seductive distortion of its former human voice.
5. Compulsion: With direct eye contact, and a little intent, a vampire can mesmerize a human, to the tune of “hypnotizing” them. Effectively capturing the mind of his or her target and holding them in a trance like state where they are not aware of what is going on, and then further subject to the vampires will, and or abilities which are normally used in concert with compulsion. This can be done to keep a person in temporary trance (as mind-rolling), or have lasting effects, giving the vampire control over the human until the vampire is killed. It can also be used to cause short-term memory loss, fabrication of false memories, alteration of real memories, etc. Elder vampires will be expert in this, newly made vampires will be ignorant of it unless taught by their sires or otherwise how to do it, or they learn over time on their own. Like every other skill, practice makes perfect. Even other vampires can be subjected to this compulsion, if they are significantly younger and weaker than the one(s) subjecting them to it. This is a skilled art rather than a thing of brute power, elegance instead of strength. Some Mystics will have a very limited resistance to some of these effects, and elder/alpha shifters will have partial or full immunity to this ability. (Note: A brand new vampire, even if “shown” how to use this ability, will not be able to do complex things with it right away, such as inducing targeted memory loss, or altering, even replacing a victims memories etc. More they will have to learn how to perfect that, and the precision required for it to have its intended effects.)
6. Mass Compulsion (Must have Compulsion First): Essentially the same as compulsion, although the level of focus and skill of the elder vampire able to execute this ability to any effect, is capable of maintaining positive, and immediate control over several individuals through compulsion at once instead of only a single individual at once. It is different for each elder, some, might only be able to maintain a comfortable level of control over two individuals at once, where others could effectively control an entire crowd. Even then, it is a rare ability, and only a few elders have ever been known to be able to do this, admitted to such, or displayed as such. Some Mystics will have a very limited resistance to this, same as with Compulsion. Elder/Alpha shifters will have partial or full immunity to this ability relative to the age and relative power of the compelling vampire.
7. Call Animal: Some Elder vampires are capable of summoning and commanding a particular type of animal. They can compel, even over great distances this animal type to come to them, aid them, perform tasks for them, Including a Shifter of that animal type, against their will. Elder Vampires also, depending on the abilities of their sire, have other bloodline unique abilities such as being able to summon and theoretically command more than one animal type. However, like every other skill sets, some elders will be better at it than others. In the art of summoning and controlling a shifter, however another problem can occur. A powerful elder lycanthrope, of adequate skill and experience in such, can block and otherwise nullify the summons but only if it is close in age to the vampire calling it which will not generally occur in ‘nature’ (IE- 100 Year old Alpha will not generally successfully resist the call or command of a vampire over 300 years.)
8. Taking of Human & Animal Servants: The Vampire must “mark” the intended servant four times. A vampire with the ability to ‘call’ an animal, or animals, (IE Lycanthropes) may also form a vampire-servant relationship with one animal type or lycanthrope subject to that vampires call. Unless a Elder Vampire, a younger Vampire will typically have a moderate to a great deal of difficulty in knowing how to do this correctly unless taught the finer details of the procedure by one who does.
Mark One – The Vampire through a blood bonding, and ritual, needs to share his or her life force with the intended Human or Lycanthrope. The Human or Lycanthrope will become as a result immune to being compelled by that Vampires eye’s, as well no longer being prone to that Vampires voice or mind tricks. The Mark “Protects” them from most other Vampires in this capacity as well, most of the time.
Mark Two - The Vampire, through another blood bond and ritual, will exchange more blood with the Human or Animal Servant. The Human or Lycanthrope can be overtaken by the Vampires mind during sleep cycles, communicated with, summoned, compelled, and even fed from then. This type of feeding is “energy based”, not on blood alone, and can be done regardless of physical distance… providing an immediate boost in strength and ability for the Vampire. This form of feeding cannot sustain the Vampire for very long, and must only be used to supplement the taking of Blood. However, if the Vampire frequently feeds from his or her Human or Animal servant in this fashion, than it will cause the humans appetite to increase in relation to the frequency and intensity of the Vampires feedings in this manner. Through the enhanced link between a Vampire and its servant at this stage of the process, the Vampire is now quite capable of intercepting, and feeling, hearing, seeing, and even tasting as their Servant does in a given moment.
Mark Three – The Vampire drains his or her servant nearly to the point of death. Ritual words are then spoken by the Vampire. A non-invasive, open mental link is semi-permanently then open between Vampire and Servant, enabling telepathic, lengthy discussion between the pair. A firmer link is established, the Vampire and Servant thereafter will always be able to find one another. The servant will enjoy the beginnings of enhanced sensory experiences.
Mark Four – The Vampire allows his or her servant to feed from him or herself, preferably a major artery, which the servant will then drink from. At the moment the servant begins to feed, the Vampire will utter the last ritual words binding the servant to him or herself. The Servant, at the conclusion of drinking his or her master’s blood is now arguably as difficult to kill, or more than the Vampire he or she serves. The servant will possess the strength and stamina of the vampire; wounds will heal at an accelerated rate, and withstand extreme levels of inflicted physical pain and no longer apparently age. The Servant can do the Vampires daylight bidding, and will generally live as long as the Vampire does. The servant is permanently and irreversibly telepathically linked to the Vampire at this point, but can no longer be “rolled” by that Vampire.
A servant does not require all four marks to become a human servant, rather the first to be considered one. With each successive mark, the bond becomes more intense, permanent, and by the forth mark beneficial to the human servant. A vampire can only maintain one Human Servant, and in certain circumstances an Animal Servant at the same time. If the Servant is/Servants are killed, the vampire can potentially perish then from the same action, in the same instant that his or her human or animal servant dies. The stronger, older, more powerful the Vampire, the less likely that this mutual end is likely to occur on part of the vampire, when however, a Vampire is killed which has a human servant, the human will generally perish as immediately as the Vampire. Unless, the human itself is strong enough to endure the psychic tearing of their bon, and usually if said Human servant is /has become ancient and of the sort of power, generally if said human is also for instance a witch, capable of animating its own immortal life force independent of its vampire. In the event that the Servant survives, he or she will find that the enhanced attributes he or she once enjoyed will start to fail. They will start to age at an accelerated rate until they perish. This is due to the vampire’s absence, and thus inability to sustain the now separated Servant.
9. Resist Silver: Some vampires are not hurt as badly by silver and some are not affected at all. It depends on how much power the vampire has and how old the vampire is, though age rarely has that effect.
10. Drain Power: A Master is capable of drawing all of the power from vampires that he has personally sired, reducing them to a weakened, near-skeletal state.
11. Call Shadows: Some master vampires can call shadows, cloaking an area in darkness.
12. Reading Minds: Some vampires have a mind reading power but they only can read people’s minds from a distance away.
13. Rise Early: The eldest of vampires are able to wake, move, and use their powers during daylight hours so long as they have ‘slept’ for at least 8.
14. Levitation/Flight
15. Projecting Senses/Emotion
First, whether it be consented or forced, whatever the circumstances, the creating vampire needs to drain the human which they intend to turn, of their life essence, their blood. The vampire will not kill the human, but rather stop feeding to just near the point of death, where without its intervention the human would soon thereafter, perish.
