1. A character's life shouldn't center around one person, they need to get to know others like in adventure game In an adventure game you usually have one character who begins their journey somewhere in a town, a forest, maybe a city. They could start in their hometown or in a new land with new people they never met.
2. There is three main parts of a character's SL. 1-Life 2-Relationships 3-Conflicts A child is first born into the world giving them life, this is that their whole life is preparing them for what is ahead. During their growth, they'll probably develope skills, talents, gain knowledge as they see the big world and meet others. Their personality and traits will reflect on people they meet. They pretty much will have a set of ups and downs throughout their lifetime.
3. Add player's SNS of the SL you're IN! Don't wait around till they im you. Simply, im them and ask if they like to roleplay. It's okay if the player's style of play may not match your own that neither of you will be capable roleplay partners that's fine. In group roleplays that is slipped out the door and such avoidance cause of how the other plays will eventually be in some parts of the SL where the two players characters may end up in a situation they will have to face or look at as a scenario.
4. Create a scenario or SL revolving your character or with others. Your character can invite characters to some major event such as a club that is sent in a flier or to the mall where the party waits or they all come together in whatever transportation available. Get everyone involved to make a storyline that much exciting. If you're going to RP with one player it ought to be for personal play such as in im's or can talk to them one on one while everyone in a large populated area such as a bar or club is dancing or carrying on. There are many SL forms and types. Personal SLs ought to be in private rooms, closed forum settings, or e-mail to ims. If two or few people is interacting it's best this way. In social SLs is where a group of characters sit around a couch watching a ballgame on a Friday night for example while drinking and eating junk food screaming. This boosts chances someone will meet the other who can become a player's rp partner without knowing it. Closed SLs is where the leader of that SL invites the players who is allowed to play and keeps the plot going without anyone else interrupting. Wide SLs is usually a moderated one where anyone can participate. Wide SLs happens all around as in the city the characters are and this could continue on for how long the mod or any player who gets permission to do one. This is setting a scene that may last based on who the storyteller is.
5. In situations where your character is in conflicts such as a shooting bullet going miles per hour at your character's head from the back or front for example. If someone is with them chances are they may save your life, watch and stand there, go their separate way feeling it isn't their problem. What would you do? Take it cause you didn't see the bullet coming? Hear the sound of something then react by jumping in the direction you think is best? This is you and the character. Give your audiences something they like to see in good SLs. Chances are a player may contact you giving you a compliment you did excellent job. They might want to roleplay with you in the future.

1. Do not enter a SL for the sole purpose of "hooking" up with anyone. 2. You don't need to be friends with everyone in a SL, you don't need to like them, and you don't even have to meet them all. 3. If you want to play jump in a room, make a room, invite people to a room. 4. Stories will only happen if you play. That being said if you are not opening rooms or IMing people to get said play you won't have any stories to play off of.
Basically what I am saying here is you have to be proactive and don't make it about sex. Just because my character is a succubus doesn't mean she's trying to bang everything in sight and I generally won't play a scene like that unless there is some chemistry between characters. I don't play cyber for the sake of cyber. It's overrated.

1. Things come up, take you away fom rp, perfectly understandable. But when you are allegedly in a room to play with others, make sure that you have time. Some people can multi-task well, do one on one rp and room at the same. But if you can't, don't try. It's very frustrating when people are sitting in a room and have to wait ten minutes or longer for one person to post. Especially when they start and then everyone is impatiently waiting for the next box and then the next.
2. I agree with a couple of Krystal's. I'm sure the admins hear all the time from the people who never play that they never see anyone playing and that's why they don't. Nothing wrong with starting a room yourself or asking someone if they would like to play. That's what builds up good rp relationships. But if you're not going to make the effort, then you don't get to complain.
3. You don't have to play with everyone, or like them (as mentioned above), because some others don't. But when you go into a room, if you don't want to play with everyone, then don't command all the attention onto you. RP is about all of us, not just a few certain people. And if a character interacts with youes, don't blow them off completely and ignore that fact. Just try and be respectful even if you're not here for everyone.
4. For the love of God, I wish that people would stop getting rp and real life confused. This is what I come online to do for fun, I don't enjoy it as much when people start getting obnoxious and selfish with their players. Keep mun issues separate from IC issues. Just because your characters hook up doesn't mean the muns have to.

5. If something happens to your character and it doesn't need to involve other muns or characters, keep it to yourself. Don't run off and complain to someone else because it gets a lot of unneeded drama going between characters and muns. Not all of us want our characters to die, but situations won't always be perfect, and if you put yourself into worse ones, then be prepared to handle what comes.

Very good on that one, Alex. I think the powers that be have been fairly lenient when it comes to some characters, but reading up on them at least and maybe discussing different things will be better in the end than a character coming in claiming to be one thing and they know nothing about it.

Consistency is key. We've done our best to blend genres regarding most creatures, and with the massive help of Troy, have a cohesive list of archetypes. It's a shame when all the work we've put forth in making things simpler for all is not utilized, and worse, it makes for confusion for other players.

There's a very good reason I use Krystal's powers sparingly. One being people don't pay attention to what she's actually capable of. Two I hate when people post counter to her abilities by behaving like she can't do that to their character unless they think she can.

Another good point, Krystal and it's at that moment that people are, more or less, playing your character for you. Now, if they post being able to counter such a thing, then yes, I could see it, if they give a logical reason, based on their own character stats.
The exception to that rule, would be if the person exuding the power, is completely ignoring your character's ability to counter, in which case, I usually point and laugh. I can think of one in particular that I have done this with. I won't name names, but his initials were Ivarr Hakon, and he never seemed to realize that Alex could, if he cared enough, jack his shit up.
Vampires of the Dragon Bloodline are quite powerful; Alex wasn't that far behind Ivarr in age, and Alex's maker is an ancient, which also makes a great deal of difference. Alex however didn't try to out power him, he simply out maneuvered him, which really pissed Ivarr's player off.

I agree with these two. Just adding more to it. I have seen too many players all of a sudden being able to out-maneuver and out-think a character that is stronger with more abilities than them, just because they don't want to be the weaker one. Your character is what you make of them but when you're butting heads with one that it is well known that they are more powerful and can fend off minor attacks, you're only putting your character into a vulnerable position. Like Alex mentioned about the above moron with the initials Ivarr Hakon, just because you want to be bigger and badder than someone doesn't make it so. And if you know the person against you in whatever way is more powerful and you still try the little mindtricks, just be prepared to get your ass handed to you.

And a HUGE pet peeve of mine. If it takes you more than 10 minutes to post your first place and more than 10 minutes to post your entire turn I have lost interest. The scroller is a GREAT tool. Use it. If it doesn't work open an email and start preposting in it to copy and paste. If I have to wait 20+ between turns I'm long past bored and probably only half paying attention and am likely playing a game outside of AOL randomly checking for when I can jump back in. Lot of problems with this one lately, so thank you for posting that, Krystal. It just sucks to get involved in room play and have to wait at least ten minutes for a person to finish a post, or hell, even write another block. If people are busy, that's fine, but leave the room or write your character out. Taking forever to post is not only making people have to wait on you, but it's probably going to piss them off to a point where they want to leave.

As to the mind tricks.... Alex didn't even use them. He basically just outsmarted the man, at every turn. Alex is not one to flaunt his abilities, he in fact only uses them when he doesn't have time to handle a situation any other way, or is backed into a corner and has to. Alex is, first and foremost a musician, which is what he projects. His powers and abilities he keeps close to the chest and does not, ever flaunt them. It would take a greater powered being to figure him out at first, or any meeting, until such a time as Alex comes to trust that person.
As for the length of time to post, the scroll tool does so much to remedy that situation. You can easily type your post while others are posting, adding points to your post to counter or emphasize what others are playing long before it's your turn. Too, it is highly beneficial for those times when AOL eats itself. If AOL suddenly shuts down without warning, as it is known to do, you don't lose your post. It's in the scroll tool.
A few draw backs to be watchful for:
1. Chat room ads. If the chat room ad is changing, wait to hit send. If you don't, it's going jack your scroll tool up, give you an error message about the post being too long (it isn't, AOL just thinks it is), and it will change your font to Arial. All of which are annoying as hell. The good news is, you still have your post and can start again after you reset your font. Sometimes too, it will jack your post up after a chat ad change, sending your post out of order.
2. Keyboard shortcuts. Try not to use them when composing your post. Using Cont+x will close the scroll tool, not cut the highlighted text. I learned this the hard way and sadly, still do it on occasion.
3. Watch what button you are pressing. I cannot tell you the number of times I have hit clear instead of send and started cussing when I lost my post. It's annoying and takes time to type it out again, which inconveniences the other players and I hate being an inconvenience.

Not all characters is primarily based on strength, not all will enter combat mode. Not all characters is combatic such as rogues in games didn't always fight you head on, but snuck behind or try to lower your ego by their tongues. Graham is like that of a rogue-like character who isn't much for combat nor will start a war with you. Most of my chars starts small and based on plots will determine their experiences, knowledge, that sort of thing. He doesn't let on what he's capable of, no. He's very smart and intellectual..noble-like individual. While he's not all mucho man, he can use what defines him to his advantage.
