Adrienne Vance:
Despite the temptation to stay holed up in their hotel room the entire time they were in Paris, they were in fact in Paris and there were a few things that Adrienne wanted to see and do. But she made sure to plan activities far later in the day, allowing them time to be lazy and enjoy the morning. And lazy Adrienne was. She'd gotten up and taken a shower and was now lounging in a fluffy bathrobe on the balcony and letting her hair dry, a breakfast tray of croissants (duh), coffee, and orange juice on the table beside her. Their 'Eiffel Tower view' room was a bit of a stretch, only a corner of great iron structure visible in the panorama of their balcony. But Adrienne didn't care, she absolutely loved it.
Alex Vipond:
Alex had fed while Adrienne was in the shower, and though the temptation had been strong, he'd refrained from joining her there. Once she was out, however he'd gotten in, taken his, then brushed his teeth. By the time he stepped out of the bathroom, his hair was dry, and he was wrapped in a big fluffy robe, and his Angry Bird slippers kept his feet off the cool floor. He dropped down into a chair on the balcony with her, and broke a croissant, popping a torn piece into his mouth before he reached to pour himself a cup of coffee. "I don't think I've seen a better view of Paris." He of course, was looking at her.
Adrienne Vance:
Hearing Alex shuffle outside, she tipped her head to look at him, and was promptly cracking up at his slippers. "You are so adorable." It really was no wonder the council scratched their heads over him. With her feet propped up on the iron railing (after making sure she wasn't flashing half of Paris), she held a cup of coffee over her stomach, letting it warm her hands. Eventually the chill on her wet hair would be too much, but for now she was comfortable. "Were you born here?" It wasn't hard to piece together his country of origin, what with his flawless French and Prince calling him Monsieur Vieuxpont.
Alex Vipond:
"Not far, Lagny Sur Marne, on the Rue Macheret. It's very much different now from what it was then." He smiled, then leaned over and dropped a kiss to her lips before popping in another bit of bread. "We were poor relations to the King." Alex nodded, "Distant cousins, but still close enough that a marriage to Nicolette or myself would have been seen as advantageous." His cup of coffee was lifted and sipped from, and he sighed, a smile touching his lips. "France and Italy both have a wondrous way with coffee."
Adrienne Vance:
The kiss was returned with a bright smile before she was sitting up in a more decent manner and taking a sip of coffee. Which she would've choked on had he spoke five seconds sooner. "No shit? Wow." She blinked at him for a moment, then her grin widened. "So did you have any prospects lined up?" Adrienne realized she was getting awfully personal here and tried to reel herself in. "If you don't mind my asking, that is...”
Alex Vipond:
"There were those which I was to have paraded before me, once I was done with my tour... Which is something young men were sent on to ... sow their wild oats, so to speak, before settling into marriage. Sadly, or perhaps not... in either event, I never made it home from tour..." He chuckled. "I met a dark and mysterious woman who captivated me completely." Alex looked at her and smiled. "She was worldly and sensual, and she held me in thrall, for a good while, in fact. Some ten years, before I slowly began to realize just how much time had passed. Once I started mentioning going home, it was then she turned me." He lifted his cup and took another sip, then leaned back in the chair to look out over the street below.
Adrienne Vance:
Adrienne's eyes rolled at the idea of women being paraded and men sowing wild oats. So old-fashioned sexist it was actually amusing. Gnawing on her bottom lip, she listened intently to the story, her coffee long forgotten. When Alex finished, she remained quiet for a moment, watching him. "Is it selfish of me that I'm not as sorry as I maybe ought to be?"
Alex Vipond:
"There are things that I have done, things that I have experienced and accomplished, which never would have happened, had I not been turned." He smiled at her, one hand reaching out for hers. "Despite all the hell it's been, it's been good as well."
Adrienne Vance:
She looked at his hand for a moment before she laced her fingers with his, giving his hand a small squeeze. "Well good, then. I am sorry for the price you've had to pay. But I'm also really glad you're here." A bit of color rose to her cheeks for how corny that sounded, but it was true.
Alex Vipond:
"There is one thing I should tell you." He gave her hand a gentle squeeze, and then looked up from their joined fingers to regard her. "My friend, that helped me with getting started... She and I are close. She has been in and out of my life for well over a century, closer to a hundred and fifty years. She is Fae, and... She is the mother of my child." Alex nodded. "A child whom I only recently learned I had. But too, it goes deeper. We will never have a typical relationship, she and I. She isn't wired that way and I wouldn't change that if I could. But we do tend to fall in together on the rare occasions she comes around."
Adrienne Vance:
Adrienne's expression turned serious; conversations that started like that were rarely good ones. But soon enough she was smiling and when he was finished, she shook her head. "Alex, we hardly know each other. I mean, hell, you're in the middle of a divorce and I'm...well, never mind." She waved that off with her free hand. "Point is, I'm not looking for any promises. I really enjoy spending time with you, and it doesn't hurt you're the best lay I've had in a long time." She shrugged, a little sheepish for that admission. "It's fine, really."
Alex Vipond:
Alex chuckled, and leaned back. "I just don't want there to be any surprises for you. Hell I still don't know how to tell my wife I have a child, or even if I should..." Jesus, he was sounding like the typical Frenchman, more and more by the moment. "I do know that had Rissy shown up during my marriage, it would have been over a lot sooner. And rightfully so. No woman deserves to have to share her husband and I fear that's exactly what would have happened," because he had no restraint when it came to the Fae. At all.
Adrienne Vance:
"Well, I do appreciate that." Her brow furrowed a little as she thought about his predicament. "I don't mean to sound heartless or anything, but...she's not your wife anymore, so is it really any of her business? It's not like your daughter was born while you two were married." Adrienne shrugged again, reaching to set her coffee down and snag up a croissant in its place. Sitting upright, she carefully curled her legs up under herself and pulled apart the flakey goodness.
Alex Vipond:
Alex contemplated that, and nodded. "No, technically it's not. But we were trying, or gearing up to try, and now it seems as if all my ideas were totally... retarded. Not to mention dangerous. I mean I had actually considered locking myself into like a hyper baric chamber and cranking the temp up for like two or three months just so I'd have the body heat to produce..." He shook his head. "Yeah, that was best left alone." He chuckled and tore off another piece of the flaky, buttery goodness. "And too, considering that we've talked like twice, face to face since the split and the first time she ran crying from the room, I think it's best she not learn of it."
Adrienne Vance:
"Yeah, from what I've heard, inter-species breeding isn't the wisest route. That your Fae managed it is impressive." It was possible that may not have sounded like it, but it was a compliment. She studied Alex while she took a few bites of her croissant. "How are you holding up, what with everything?" It appeared he was pretty over the woman, but for all she knew his getting back in the saddle could be one massive cry for help.
Alex Vipond:
Alex contemplated her question for a moment, then drew in a deep breath as his hand slid through his hair. "At times I'm fine. Others not so much. It's kind of hard to explain. I loved her, and part of me will always love her, but I didn't really know her, you know? We didn't have that chance to get to know one another. We were too hurried, too rushed, had too many outside influences...." He let out a breath and looked back at her. "I don't know. Had we taken things slowly I think things could have worked out, but now..." he shook his head. "It was a good dream while it lasted."
Adrienne Vance:
Adrienne couldn't help a small smile as he pushed his hand through his hair. She thought it was cute, sue her. Nodding with understanding as she listened, she reached over to take his hand once more. "Then it's probably a good thing it didn't go on longer than it should've." Once the words were out of her mouth, she was shaking her head. "Sorry, that didn't sound like I meant it to. But if ever you're having one of those 'not so much' times, I'm here for you." And not in the sense that she'd provide a distraction for him--which she would always be happy to do--but her tone was sincere. She wanted to be a friend to him, not just some fan that's a decent lay.
Alex Vipond:
Alex had never been one to take advantage of his fans in that way. He wanted a true connection with them, through his music, not through his genitals. He smiled at her, his hand closing with hers as she took it once more and he brought them up, a kiss dropped to the back of hers. "I appreciate it. And I appreciate you coming to Paris with me. I'm sorry it turned out to be for naught, but it has given us time to enjoy the city." Alex glanced out over the street once more. "You know, this is, I do believe the first time I've been to Paris in, the last century at least, when it wasn't completely work related?"
Adrienne Vance:
Oh thank God. Claws would come out if the term 'groupie' got tossed around. "Hey, thanks for the opportunity. It's my first time out of the US." He ought to be proud of her for not completely freaking out on the plane. While Alex looked out over the city, she studied him with a small smile. "Is there anywhere else in particular you want to go, anything you want to do?"
Alex Vipond:
"How would you like to go to Italy?" He looked back at her. "I've a house there; I would like to show you." House. Uh huh. "We can leave tonight, put that passport of yours to use. Get a new stamp on it." He smiled, Angry Birds crossing as he propped his feet up on the rail.
Adrienne Vance:
Brows went up, her eyes wide. "For real? Uh, yeah!" Twist her arm, geeze. Laughing, she shrugged. "The office thinks I had an appendectomy, so I'm good for at least a week." May as well put her sick time to good use!
Alex Vipond:
"Perfect." Alex grinned and leaned over, a kiss dropped to her lips, before he straightened. "We can hit the highlights here today and head for Italy tomorrow. Maybe even stop in Venice while we're in the neighborhood. See it before the sea over takes even more."
Adrienne Vance: His bottom lip was caught briefly between her teeth before he pulled back, her grin possibly wider than his. "Seriously, I think this is the most impulsive I've been since...the seventies." A grimace was made for that.
Alex Vipond:
"Well we don't want you to go too wild." he smirked. "We'll refrain from the bell bottoms and dropping acid." He chuckled. "Shopping however I can't rule out." Yes, call him old, but shopping in foreign cities was something he considered a good time. And no he wasn't Bermuda shorts, with socks and sandals old, and really, kill him if he ever tried that shit, but he did enjoy browsing and haggling.
Adrienne Vance:
"Hey, don't knock it til you try it." With a grin she spilled out of her chair, tucking her hair behind while she leaned in to give him a lingering kiss. Then she stood upright and headed back into the room, leaving the door open behind her, so she could get her towel and get to drying her hair. That chill had settled in. "Are you talking, like, old market stalls shopping or high fashion Milan shopping?"
Alex Vipond:
"Either. Both." Okay so yeah, he could be a snob in his shopping too. Perhaps that was a throwback to the aristocracy, or maybe he just liked hanging out during fashion week. Especially now that a lot of places were cracking down on underweight models. No one likes to bang a stick figure. Why the hell anyone would ever consider that sexy was always beyond him. Alex watched her, and then rose, following her in.
