“ADRIENNE!!”
Her roommate's shrill cry and the immediately slamming door that followed almost had Adrienne falling out of her chair. Dropping her feet from her desk to the floor, she tried to call out to Kendra to find out what was wrong, but the suddenly blaring radio in the living room drowned her out.
Stretching, Adrienne walked out from their shared room, flinching as Kendra frantically turned the dial, surfing through the stations. No, not surfing. Hunting. “The hell is wrong with you?” Adrienne finally managed to ask.
“Jagger and Kristi are giving away tickets to see Camino Palmero,” Kendra gasped as she finally found Star 100.7. The station was just wrapping up a commercial break, which earned a sigh of relief from her blonde roommate. “With meet and greet passes!. Get off the internet so you can help me win!"
Adrienne rolled her eyes. “Oh for fuck's sa--"
"Adrienne, come on!" Kendra cried. "I'd do it for you if it were *NSYNC tickets!”
Damn it. She had a point. “All right, all right!” Adrienne almost flailed on her way back to her room. “What are we listening for?” she called over her shoulder as she sank back into her desk chair and brought up the radio station's website so she could jot down the contest phone number. She then disconnected the Internet and programmed the phone number into the portable phone.
"Wherever You Will Go," Kendra called back. “100th caller!"
Frowning, Adrienne looked up at the Camino Palmero posters that adorned Kendra's side of the room. (Mixed in with a plethora of boy band and rock posters that they'd both plastered the room with.) "That's not the one with the low notes I can never reach, is it?”
“Yup!” Kendra said with a laugh. "You know...If I could then I would, I'll go wherever you will go..."
Adrienne scoffed, studying the blonde frontman on the nearest poster. “Dude, that guy looks like he's twelve! What happened, his balls drop when he was eight?”
“DO NOT TALK ABOUT MY FUTURE BABY DADDY LIKE THAT!!”
Rolling her eyes, Adrienne laughed. In the year she'd known her, Kendra had at some point referred to just about every man on their wall as her future baby daddy. “Right, right, sorry...”
The afternoon went by rather uneventfully, with Kendra studying at the coffee table and reaching for the phone every time a song ended. In true DJ fashion, afternoon show hosts Jagger and Kristi kept reminding them to be listening for the song to call in and win, then maddeningly played every current top hit except the song they were waiting for. When finally those first few guitar notes started playing, Kendra shrieked and the frantic scramble to call in began.
Even though Adrienne couldn't care less about the tickets, there was indeed a thrill trying to win them. But soon enough she grew as frustrated as Kendra when each call turned into a busy signal and she had to hang up and hit redial.
“OH MY GOD IT'S RINGING!” Kendra screamed.
Just then, Adrienne's call went through, too. “So's mine!”
Kendra scrambled to her feet and joined Adrienne in their room, pacing back and forth as the phone rang continuously. Her eyes then suddenly lit up and she gasped, but was soon hanging up the phone. “Caller 86, damn it!”
“I'm still ringing,” Adrienne laughed. Then the line picked up and her eyes were widening when the voice on the other end asked, “Star 100.7, who is this?” It was Jagger! “This is Adrienne, am I the 100th caller?” She then gasped and Kendra was screaming.
At this point another of their roommates had come home and poked her head in to ask what was going on.
“Adrienne won tickets to see Camino Palmero!” Kendra yelled. “I'M GOING TO MEET ALEX!!”
