The Seelie Court:
The Seelie Court were considered the true aristocrats of the Daoine Sidhe. They were judges, dispensing justice to the other faery when it was required, and served as frequent arbitrators of the many faery quarrels. The Seelie Court was very political, complete with cliques, factions, gossiping, and rivalry.
Sometimes called the ‘Blessed Ones,’ the Seelie were often depicted as a procession of brilliant light riding on the night air. The Seelie Court, as a group, would often use these excursions to find those in need of help. The Seelie were also prone to a great deal of mischief, especially when bored. However, their pranks rarely caused true harm, for the Seelie were really very fond of humans.
The Code:
Like many human courts, the Seelie Court had its own code of conduct, a code which all of the Seelie had to abide by. This code was:
Death Before Dishonor: A member of the Seelie Court would protect his or her honor to the death. Honor was the single source of glory for the Seelie, the only way to attain recognition. A true Seelie would rather have died than live with personal dishonor, and would never bring dishonor to another of the Seelie.
Love Conquers All: For the Seelie, love was the perfect expression of the soul. It transcended all other things. Though romantic love was considered to be the highest and purest form of love, platonic love was also encouraged.
Beauty is Life: Beauty was one of the first tenants of the Seelie Court. To belong, a faery had to be beautiful, and all beauty was to be protected. The Seelie were known to go to war to protect beauty, whether it was a beautiful person, place, or thing.
Never Forget a Debt: This tenant worked in two ways. The Seelie were bound by their code of honor to repay any debt owed as soon as was possible. This included both favors and insults. The Seelie would repay a favor in a timely fashion. At the same time, they would exact vengeance almost immediately.
Powers:
Glamour - Magic that can change a fae’s appearance for the eyes of humans. Only few sidhe can work glamour on other sidhe. This is considered an insult to do so without permission.
Fae Struck or Elf Struck – In the event that a sidhe takes a human lover they must control the flow of their magic. If the human is exposed to the full extent of their magic they can become fae struck. This is in essence an addiction like any other where the inflicted individual craves contact with the fae. Some people have been known to wither and die from the lack of continuous contact.
Alluring Presence (The Allure) – Sidhe are known for their addictive attributes. Every aspect of a sidhe can be addictive to some extent. Most commonly the scent, flavor, etc. of the individual may be sweet or alluring. In the case of vampires or other creatures who feed off of blood, it is believed a sidhe’s blood is so sweet that once the vampire tastes it they will be unable to stop feeding.
The Glow – The glow is an inner light that becomes evident in intense moments of happiness or pleasure. In most cases the glow is an attribute that sidhe keep hidden with glamour. The radiance of the glow can be so intense it can border on blinding in the case of some higher fae. Additionally the inner light that is responsible for the glow causes most sidhe to run at a higher temperature than normal humans.
Hand of Power – Every sidhe comes into a hand of power, typically speaking this is a unique power that only that particular individual possesses. In some rare cases the power may be shared between descendants. This power can range and be virtually anything, however it is usually based on some form of touch.
Immortality – Some people refuse to acknowledge the immortality of the fae as there are means to kill them, however much in the case with all immortal beings these methods are so few and far between that they are by most rights immortal. In particular there are enchanted weapons and hands of power which can be used to kill a fae.
