For Alexandria Jordan Roberts, being born in Mercy Hospital was just the start of a not so normal life. Born to an unwed mother that Alexandria may never come to know. She was given over to the state and placed in an orphanage. There she was cared for and loved rather than being left to the world and only God knows what, to have happen to her. For several months of the first year of life, she called the orphanage home. That would change however, as one day someone decided they wanted to give this little girl a real home.
Alexandria was adopted by Kenneth and Christine Roberts. She was officially brought home on October 13th of 1980, just a month before her first birthday. Alexandria childhood was decent despite her rocky start in life. Kenneth and Christine made sure their new little girl had everything she could possibly need to grow and flourish into what they hoped to be a beautiful person both inside and out. She was given the chance at a life that would have otherwise ended before it began.
While Kenneth was a company engineer, Christine worked in a local doctors office. Both had dreams of starting their own family for years now. Unfortunately, Christine wasn't able to have children due to health issues that her body wouldn't be able to handle should she become pregnant. Adoption had been the next thing to look into. They were happy to learn that after filling out all the proper paper work, and a what seemed like a never ending waiting game, they had been approved. A new beginning had started where three separate lives came to form a single family.
Alexandria had about as normal a childhood as she could possibly have. She attended grade school, made friends, and was even a good student. Once middle school began, she started to show interest in the arts. Anything from drawing and sketching, to music and theatre. However, when she reached high school, things began to slowly change and not for the better.
Alexandria had become quite the rebellious teenager, by doing all the things that teens did to drive their parents crazy. Skipping school, staying out past curfew, attending under aged drinking parties and dating boys that were much more older than herself whom had that bad boy image that every mother feared. It was during this time of her life she had discovered she was different and not just because she was adopted. There were things that occurred that were.... unexplainable. Things that she couldn't understand, and yet knew she couldn't turn to anyone about.
Alexandria had abilities, abilities that she kept hidden from friends and family alike. Some say that nothing good comes out of something bad, but perhaps that's not always the case. It was in this time of her life that she came to meet man named Big Moe while walking the city streets with friends and whom would give Alexandria her first tattoo.
Big Moe got to know Alexandria a little more as she and her friends often visited his parlor, it was what the in crowd did in those days. Not wanting to see a life ruined, Moe took Alexandria, who he nick named AJ, under his wing and made her see that you could stand out without having to be bad. That if you had talent, that was the way to make people notice you. The more time they spent, he saw something in the young girl that others often over looked. Perhaps Big Moe wasn't exactly a man that looked to be the kind of person you wanted your teenage daughter to look up to, but as the old saying goes, you can't judge a book by it's cover.
It seemed her mischievous ways was just a phase, or perhaps it was the death of a close friend that made her realize living this kind of lifestyle wasn't going to get her anywhere fast but in the ground. By her junior year, she had learned to cope with her secret abilities, and was back on the straight a narrow with a return interest of the arts and even had a job. She worked for Big Moe after school, after some convincing took place with her parents of how he along with the two of them, came to help her make the better decisions in her young life. Her senior year, she graduated with honors and was looking forward to attending a local community college.
While in the midst of transition, tragedy struck. Her adoptive parents were killed in a tragic accident on their way to South Carolina. The death of her family had struck hard. This is where the emotional pain came into play and caused her to learn other things about herself in regards to her abilities. She worked hard and helped Moe, telling herself that once things got better, she'd go to college as planned. However, that day never came.
AJ, rather than just being a shop keep and working the front desk, got her chance to show Moe and the others just how talented she was. Drawing on paper with a pencil or pen was much different than on skin with a tattoo gun, but for her first tattoo, on Big Moe of all people ... she did pretty damn good. From here, she got to practice more and more on both Moe as well as the others in the shop while her own body continued to become a canvas for the others. Before she knew it, she was one of the crew with her own customers. Things seem to be going good for now.
After working a couple years under Big Moe, she had hopes of maybe some day, opening up her own shop. Things went well for awhile, and she even came to make quite a few friends of her own through her tattooing. One of those friends being a guy named Bruce Anderson who owned his own motorcycle shop. Here, something new was introduced as friendship turned into something much more.
AJ eventually opened up her own parlor and things between her and Bruce developed pretty fast as the two had a lot in common. Much more than each of them originally thought it seemed. They both liked the older muscle cars of the past rather than the newer ones. Bruce even introduced her to motorcycles, to which Alex came to love.
The shop was booming, her reputation and that of her crew quickly spread throughout the city of Miami. The publicity had made them rising to become one of the area's best tattoo parlors in the city. Not only was her business flourishing, but her relationship with Bruce as well. There was talk of making things official and it was on the afternoon of December 7th Bruce took a bike ride to go and purchase a ring to surprise AJ with on Christmas. Unfortunately, it would be his last ride as he was killed in traffic accident that not only claimed his life, but the life of the driver that struck him.
It was something hard to come to terms with. To not only learn the love of your life had been killed, but to learn he'd been killed on the day he intended to purchase a token of love that symbolized a future together. From here, AJ would never be the same... She dated a couple times of course, but nothing serious ever came from them. Perhaps she feared that history would repeat itself if she allowed herself to believe happiness could once again be found.
As heartbreaking as it can be and often is. There are lots of memories found in the city of sun and surf, both good and bad. It's the good ones that kept her there, never wanting to leave them. It's the bad ones that remind her often of what's she's lost on a daily basis and that haunt her nights. As she once more adjusted to the changes in her life, she fell into a normal routine. No college ever came and she was making a career out of what she loved.
It wasn't until years later she learned the truth behind Bruce's death. A man named Martin, who was a undercover agent, had stopped by her shop a few times. It was due to a case he was working on. However, the more he stopped by, and even allowed AJ to do a piece for him, he asked her out. Little did she know, that the whole time since Bruce's death, this man had been watching over her. Martin had learned about Bruce's death, had known he was the cause. How? Because the driver that hit Bruce, had been the mark for Martin to take out. That shot caused the driver to plummet forward, running that red light and causing the car to strike Bruce on his bike.
So consumed by his guilt, he took it upon himself to secretly watch over AJ and protect her. Until one day, he couldn't take it anymore and he had to introduce himself. He asked her out, and she refused, but persistence paid off. That and the loss of a bet. Martin would get his date, and from there on out, the two hit it off. They were together as often as they could be, and AJ began to notice that certain things didn't make since. While she kept her own secrets hidden, she soon learned the truth about Martin and what he did. It wasn't easy to accept at first, and then to learn he had been responsible for Bruce's death had been a hard pill to swallow. They worked through it though, through the good and the bad and just when things were starting to get better, fate stepped in.
Things were getting dangerous and Martin's occupation proved to be a hazard. So much so, that the best thing she could do was change her name and start over again. Her past life was nearly wiped clean, and she left behind those she loved. Especially Martin. She knew things could never be the same for them. However, there were two people she refused to cut out of her life and those people were Moe and a guy named Manny. With this new life, a new identity was created, and so with the help of both Martin and a few friends, she finds herself on a brand new journey. With her, she carries her secrets.
That was all before she was relocated to Washington DC, due to a scare based on her past relationship with Martin, and the people he had been responsible for killing, after gaining access to certain information, while undercover. It had been a difficult change in pace from hot and sun shiny Miami, to the cold and dull world of DC. Having to change her name from Alexandria Jordan Roberts, to Avary Marie Jordan. Trouble would find her again, by the name of Damion Cross, who was involved with the Irish Mob.
Of course, the moment those over seeing her safety, she was being uprooted once more and change came again. Moving from Washington DC, to now... Seattle, Washington and under the guise of one Kasandra Rae Castillo. Former Tattoo Artist, Former Club Assistant Manager, to now... Bar Tender. What will Seattle hold for Kas? One can only hope for the best, while planning for the worse. For a woman in her place has two faces; one for the world, and one which she wears in private.
